Cookie odour and McDonald's flags flying high....
cyclists and pedestrians just passing by

City of Joy

Naked terraces without walls and railings make an important contribution to the landscape of Kolkata, especially the older parts of the city... while the rest of the city lives in a frantic hullabaloo, these terraces live a peaceful existence...quietly witnessing the rising and setting of the sun ... and for some reason I cannot explain, drying clothes on the rooftop seems to adds to the quintessential beauty of the city :)

Standing Guard

While I changed my camera batteries and threw the old ones in the dust-bin, one of the guards came up to me and asked... "Kya Madam ji, bomb - shomb toh nai hai na???" and then gave me a smile when I looked up flabbergasted and siad "Nai, bhaiyya ji, batteries hai"... Of course I followed it up with a smile and a flutter of eye lashes :D

I wonder if I should have coaxed the guy to rummage through the crap.... btw, it wasn't the guy in the pictures... I just found this guy very interesting ;)

Manual Mode

Trying to get a hang of the manual mode in my Point and Shoot - tried a Shutter Speed - 1/6 to 1/15 and aperture: f/2.8

the results are pretty decent .... though it took some 5 - 6 shots to get it right.... well, almost... :)

This ring belonged to my grandmother - Didi and I had bought it for her with our first salaries put together.... the first diamond in our family worn by a most precious person.... she wore it till she was conscious..... two of the few things I don't part with... memory of my cuddly cute, adorable, way ahead of her times, Dida.... and her ring....







the best part about shooting with a high aperture and slow shutter speed - how sweetly it blurs the messy background ..a.k.a my room, a near clear focus on the ring... u get brownie points for ignoring the ugly fingers.... ;)



hmmm.... u cud call this next picture an ode to one of the other regulars in my pocket.... ya, ya, i've heard about it's carcinogenic properties.... nevertheless, the packaging is quite bright and attractive.... :D

Incessant Rain and Digital Macro

Have been following Ashley Ann's blog. Her shots are amazing, especially portraits. She keeps posting tips on how to best use your Point and Shoot Camera. I usually use my sister's Sony 10 mega pixel. But lately I have been keen on exhausting my old Olympus D595 5 megapixel one. Had lost the manual, so read up online...

Tried the Digital Macro for super closeup shots. The natural light wasn't particularly great, infact quite overcast due to the incessant rains....so used spot metering for single point exposure.

Think I am quite happy with the results...

A Good Looking Diet

Those who know me, can swear by how much I "Enjoy" cooking :P
Nevertheless, when the incentive is getting rid of a few pounds, the kitchen calling doesn't bother me that much.... Unlike the saying "All that glitters isn't gold", the dish you see here really rocked!!!
